Social Media and Tactile Travel
Click. Send.
And there went the Winter 2010 Travel Journal, Tactile Travel’s season newsletter. Call it seasonal ’cause it has been about as erratic as the weather in the last year. For a long time, the Travel Journal was a pdf painstakingly emailed in small groups to avoid being labeled spam. As the mailing list grew, the email format had to change. Want to sign up? The newsletter will now appear every 2 to 3 months, sharing some of the cool things we’re finding on our travels and highlighting upcoming tours.
Spreading the word about Tactile Travel will be a big goal in this year of the Tiger. But who would have guessed it if you looked at the Journal? Sigh.
That whole list of places you can connect with Tactile Travel? It didn’t get into the newsletter again. No mention that we’ve opened a Facebook page, or that a lovely client started Fans of Tactile Travel on Ravelry and as always, there’s tidbits on Twitter. Good grief.
And I didn’t even talk about the early bird pricing and payment plans for the Vermont Craft and Cuisine! This July trip, based at a wonderful resort near Burlington, has great food, visits to artisans and time to create in your own studio space. Sign up by March 1, and you can pay for the trip in two installments: $500 at reservation and the rest by May 1. We’re also offering an early bird price until March 15, which is a $100 discount! It’s the first time we’ve offered special pricing, but that’s no good if you don’t actually let people know about it.
Then fellow foodie Jeanine emailed me and asked, “don’t you include a way for folks to subscribe at the bottom of the email?” How did that get deleted?
The year of the Tiger is certainly beginning with a whimper. As in all things, social media is a growing and learning experience. Like travel, the journey is just as interesting as the destination.
Hear me roar!
