Virtual Traveler

Genuine people, places and things.

A flea among giants

The Boston Globe Travel Show graced the Seaport World Trade Center last weekend. Friday morning featured trade workshops before the floor opened to the public that evening. It was good to meet area travel agents, industry reps, and listen to fun travelers talking about social media.

Walking the floor, however, reminded me of just how giant tour operators can be. Holy cats! The printing and booth decorations alone probably exceed Tactile Travel’s yearly advertising budget.   But, then again, our goals don’t include mega tourism for thousands of tourists, filling beds for this week or next.  We create settings where you can enjoy your interests and learn about others who pursue their passions.  Take this July’s Vermont Craft and Cuisine, or the Textile Trek for example.

The show had plenty of fun reasons to stay inside a conference venue on a glorious, sunny Saturday.  The culinary stage was one of them (check this link for recipes, if you missed it), and there were cultural presentations, tempting you to new lands.  New York has their version this weekend.  Pay for your tickets with an American Express card, and use the code 3OFF10 for a discount.
